Useless crap

I was going to reveal the first Horseman today, but I've changed my mind. I'm going to do this instead...

Here's a tip for everyone out there who likes to swap ATCs. Know how people like to send extra stuff in the envelope that you look at and think you could never possibly use? You don't want to throw it away, because if everyone did that, the world's landfills would be full of useless paper scraps that no one can possibly use. Plus, someone was thoughtful enough to send you some extra stuff, so you should be grateful (or something) for that stuff. These random scraps of paper and stickers and the like can come in handy. Here are the top 5 uses for them that you may not have thought of:

5. Eat them! In a pinch, paper goods are a good source of fiber.

4. Burn them! As anyone who's ever seen one of those survival shows where some guy goes into the woods, tundra, swamp, shopping mall, etc. and "has" to survive on his own with no food or shelter knows, the first thing you need is fire. So, if you ever find yourself lost in the woods, you'll be thankful you're carrying your ATC extras with you to help get the fire going.

3. Weaponize them! Only a highly skilled ninja can master the art of turning paper products into instruments of self defense. If you're not a highly skilled ninja, it's pointless to explain how this works. If you are a highly skilled ninja, I don't have to explain how this works. I'm not going to explain how this works.

2. Regift them! 99% of the extra stuff that people send to other people came from someone else to begin with anyway*. So...keep the tradition alive. Shove all the stuff you just got into the envelope with the ATC you're about to send. Note that you run the risk of the next person feeling the same way about the stuff that you did. Eventually, the stuff will get back to the originator, and they'll send it off to someone else once again.

1. Use them! It's a real challenge to use something you don't like and turn it into something you do like, and it can be fun, so try it. Here's a tip: miscellaneous torn pieces of paper stuck to an ATC back usually turns out to be a really cool background, no matter how bad the original paper was. Smear some ink or paint on it and it's even better. So experiement with all this useless crap, and turn it into art. The next person you're sending an ATC will thank you for it.

The Craftocalypse shall soon be upon us. It will be ushered in by the creative energy of 4 groups, known as the Four Horsemen of the Craftocalypse. These Horsemen will be revealed in future posts, one at a time, and hopefully many of you shall be enticed into joining the groups, making the Horsemen stronger and feeding the movement. I will also be sharing craft tips, anectodes about successes and failures, and whatever else I decide to talk about.
